Background

The way of the wood elves is that growth comes from humility and compassion. Their fates are bound to that of the other races’, for better or worse. The ways of the old elven empires are gone but not forgotten. Some of the wood elves feel that this new idiom isn’t befitting of their noble race. Humility will not further the elves’ cause at any significant rate, especially not when false.

Twitch was brought up partly by his great grandfather, an ancient and grumpy elf. He used to tell stories of old, when honour, pride and prowess were the tenets by which all “the people” lived by. A way of life that granted great success in times long passed. A way of life the slightly bitter former soldier had come to glorify in his mind as an ideal to strive for. He had served his whole life as soldier but only raised his weapon in defence and barely that. To avoid conflict and possible bloodshed, the elven community preferred to yield ground to the humans’ ever growing numbers.

The elven community that Twitch grew up in was situated in Baskwood. It was no more than 400 inhabitants at its peak. It was the southern most outpost of the wood elves of Chondalwood. It was started some 120 years ago in an attempt to expand the territory. With the strong wild elf presence a few hundred miles to the south and the troublesome humans readily abundant everywhere except in the hearts of larger forests, the planed expansion to the south never came about. The outpost was kept alive through trade with the human settlements for more than hundred years. Twitch was the first child to be born in the outpost. He had no ties to the homeland of Chondalwood and when the discussions of returning began some twenty years ago, Twitch was opposed to the idea. Being a young adult his voice carried little weight. Most of the older elves were looking forward to returning home and the younger mainly wanted to be with their parents. The only ones apart from Twitch opposed to the idea were those slightly older who had come to the outpost at a young age. After a few years of discussions, it was decided that the outpost filled no purpose. Twitch refused to give in to the decisions of his elders and chose to break with his kin. His parents Raelin and Iliria Laelindar were both opposed and disappointed about his decision. As he had come of age, there was nothing they could do about it though, apart from wishing him good luck and leaving him with the bow Faenor, a priced family heirloom that had belonged to Twitch’s great grandfather.
